Most session are scheduled mornings and mid day. Some evenings and weekend appointments are available, but they need to be booked well in advance (about 4-6 weeks). Please call me to schedule your appointment as soon as possible as my week-day schedule books up very quickly.
I never want my clients to feel rushed. Sessions can take anywhere from 1-2 hours. There is always time for breaks, clothing changes, feeding or just time to regroup. Next to my studio I have a room where the children can play and get comfortable in the new surroundings.
I want the session to be as relaxed and as enjoyable as possible.
I strongly encourage you to bring some items/toys that have some significance to your child and the stage that they are in. And please feel free to bring any items that your child can enjoy during the session.

Once you have booked your appointment, you will receive an information package which will go over directions, clothing choices, what to expect from the session as well as helpful tips to keep your little ones happy.
Bare skin is my favorite on newborns and babies. I try not to do too many clothing changes with infants as they tend to get a bit grouchy.
I suggest you bring a few outfits that you are considering. That way we can work together to select what best suits the look and feel you desire for your child's portrait.
Try to keep the clothes simple. I want the focus to be on the child not the clothes. I suggest solid colors, avoid busy patterns or logos/ words. Jeans, overalls, khakis, and loose fitting dresses are classic and timeless. If you want to bring black or white clothing I would encourage you also bring an alternative outfit that can work with a contrasting backdrop. Bare feet are the best option. So don't be surprised when I ask you to take your shoes and socks off!
Parents - you may not plan to be in the photo shoot, but sometimes I may need you (your hands or your feet) to be in a few shots to help your child to feel more comfortable.
Maternity sessions should be booked for around the beginning of your eight months.
If you are expecting, it is best to reserve around your due date. Perhaps book 2 sessions. The week of your due date and the week after. That way you have a better chance of getting in when the baby is born. Newborns will photograph best at 1-2 weeks old. Always plan for 2 hours and a bit. You don't want to feel rushed, plus we may need to stop several times for feeding, changing and cuddling.
The best time to have your baby's picture is when he or she is sitting up. Try to book your session after your baby's nap and snack. They will be full of smiles and giggles.
Your child will probably be constantly moving around. Therefore, these photograph sessions will take on a more candid approach. This is such a fun age to photograph their little personalities. I will do my best to capture their attention. But please feel free to bring some of your own tricks as well! I find toddlers respond best when their parents are involved.
Get them when they are at their best! Schedule the photo shoot for a time of day your child is active and energetic. This means avoiding regular nap and feeding times. Before leaving for the session, explain you're going somewhere fun. This will prevent them from getting nervous or scared. Also, try not to put too much pressure on your child or it may backfire. We don't want forced or unnatural smiles. We all want this to be fun.
It is important that the whole family is relaxed and having fun. I am always looking for new places where the kids can enjoy their surroundings. I recommend that your clothing compliment each other. Try to stick to similar colors or at least colors that work well together. I suggest that you stay away from busy patterns. But have fun and be creative with your clothing choices. Chunky knits, vests, scarves, hats... I would be more than happy to help you out if you like. The session can run 1-2 hours so please bring snacks for the kids.
Try not to wear white, it is very bright and grabs all the attention. Unless of course you will have a light background. Overcast skies are ideal, but weather is unpredictable. Mornings are best or before sunset. We will work with what can. I often book sessions at locations that have plenty of shade to help out on those extra sunny days.
Remember it is Danielle's goal to photograph your family, relaxed and having fun, so please relax and enjoy the time together.
